Our Vision
A world that sees that people living with a disability have the same needs and interests as any other person in the community.
Our Mission
Creating and supporting relationships that make a positive difference in the life of a person with an intellectual disability. Citizen Advocacy Sunbury & Districts works to advance the rights of people with disability, consistent with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Our Values
Non-Discriminatory Advocacy
- Disadvantaged people will need additional assistance if they are to flourish,
though the scope of that assistance varies widely. - Communities contain people willing to do beneficial things for others, including
towards those who are socially disadvantaged. - This assistance will come from others competent in areas that disadvantaged
people do not generally have access to. - Assisting people on a one-to-one basis is highly effective, especially when
such needs include companionship, acceptance and friendship. - Fundamental needs are most impacted within an unpaid relationship,
independent from other interests. - Valued social roles and the value they confer can emerge from committed
relationships. - Freely given relationships are an ideal context for acquiring social
competencies and a positive self-image. - A Freely given relationship is one of the strongest safeguards for protecting
people from the potential of neglect and harm. - Freely given relationships are of utmost importance for people who have a
long history of disappointment, rejection and abandonment when it is a central
feature of their lived experience. - There will always be some people who have the competencies for being a
citizen advocate and who will respond to the challenge to become one. - More people will respond to a challenge if they are confident that they will
receive support in their engagement when they need it. - Communities will be better communities if their individual members voluntarily
take care of each other in a direct, personal, and concrete way.
